Tips on using Quartus ModelSim

  Actions recommended before running simulation for the first time: 

 1. if not already done, install the Ubuntu package lib32ncurses5 

 2. to simulate VHDL code, in Quartus, under Assignments / Settings: 
       in category EDA Tool Settings / Simulation: 
          set Format(s) to VHDL (then button sequence Apply, OK)

 3. in Quartus, under Tools / Options: 
       in category EDA Tool Options:
          copy & paste ModelSim-Altera location to ModelSim location

  Actions #2 and #3 are needed only once for Quartus 13.1, viz. their 
effects persist. On the contrary, with Quartus 16.0, action #3 is to be 
performed every time Quartus is launched (I'm not sure whether the same 
holds for action #2, I'll check it out asap).
